I was speaking about how important drawing is for what I do. Everything derives from it.

It’s the wellspring. For me anyway. It’s immediate. It’s pretty cheap – given the cost of art materials – paints and canvas etc. So there’s little pressure – financially at least. You’ll only need a pocket book and a pencil. Very portable too.

If you’re able to get to see some art – I mean right in front of you – usually in a gallery, if you can stand the likelihood of someone peering over your shoulder occasionally… (the actual pressure of a stranger invading my personal space in this situation is something I’ve learnt to steel myself against – it wasn’t easy), and if you can get as close as possible to whatever has caught your eye, then, it can be an invaluable resource. Taking a photo isn’t the same. Distance can make an enormous difference – even a few inches further back or to the side. Looking at a screen just doesn’t compare.

Not to mention the total learning experience. The chance to become more confident, perhaps. To get a bit better. To add another string to your bow. You’ll see.
